The combination of economic insecurity, the rising cost of housing, access to quality childcare and reliable public transit system add to the everyday stressors of parenting. These obstacles have been in place for generations, making it incredibly difficult to break the cycle of parenting in poverty.” — Parenting Journey Executive Director Imari Paris Jeffries
Massachusetts is the least affordable state for childcare for infants and toddlers, and among the least affordable states for four-year-old care. The Somerville Journal spoke with our Parent Advisory Council Co-Chair Renee Ulloa about how our lack of affordable childcare options impact her and her family.
As Renee notes, “I cannot afford childcare or housing without a job, and I cannot get job with without childcare.”
In response to these challenges, Parenting Journey staff and parent leaders are working to expand access to affordable childcare.
