Lanita McCormick has a diverse and varied skill set and professional background, she has distinguished herself as a multifaceted professional with proven abilities in organization operations, process improvement, and project management. Lanita began her time with Parenting Journey as the Interim Executive Director, where she had the opportunity to kick off the strategic planning process in preparation for a permanent Executive Director. In her current role as Deputy Director, Lanita oversees our Operations and Programs departments. Previously, Lanita held roles as the Director of the Roxbury Innovation Center, looking at innovative ways to bring resources to local entrepreneurs, and the Vice President of Engagement at United Way of Massachusetts Bay, Inc., where she built out community and corporate engagement for the organization. 

Lanita holds a B.A. in Communications from Temple University. When she is not spending time championing Parenting Journey she is busy, alongside her husband, forging her own parenting journey with her three daughters.

From the Parenting Journey Curricula’s Name Game: Where did your name come from?

My first name comes from my mom, she always told me that I was the only person with this name. Until I heard someone say my name one day in a mall and realized they weren’t calling me.

What does self-care look like to you?

For me self care is about recognizing that I need to create an unapologetic space for myself to find rest and relaxation.
